New Delhi- Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind on Saturday released a detailed advisory ahead of Bakrid, appealing to Muslims across the country to perform Qurbani (animal sacrifice) in accordance with the law, government regulations, and civic responsibilities.
In an official statement, Jamiat President Mahmood Asad Madani urged the community to ensure that all religious practices during the festival are carried out peacefully, responsibly, and with full respect for public harmony.
“Qurbani is an important act of Islamic worship and is obligatory for every financially capable Muslim. There is no substitute for it during the prescribed days of sacrifice. Therefore, every capable Muslim should make sincere efforts to fulfil this religious duty,” Madani said.
At the same time, he stressed that all sacrifices must strictly comply with legal provisions and local administrative guidelines.
“Animals prohibited under the law should not be sacrificed under any circumstances,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of hygiene and sanitation during the festival, Madani appealed to people not to dump animal waste in public places.
“Animal remains should never be thrown on roads, streets, or in drains. Proper arrangements should be made to dispose of them safely in designated areas using plastic bags. People should also fully cooperate with municipal and sanitation workers,” he added.
The Jamiat chief further advised the community to remain sensitive towards others and ensure that religious activities do not create inconvenience for the public.
“Every effort should be made to ensure that no discomfort or inconvenience is caused to others through our actions,” the statement noted.
Madani also urged people to follow all legal procedures related to the purchase, transportation, and sale of sacrificial animals.
He specifically appealed to the public to avoid uploading or sharing photos and videos of animal sacrifices on social media platforms.
“Photos and videos related to sacrifice should not be shared on social media,” he stated.
Addressing concerns over possible communal tensions during the festival period, Madani advised people to remain calm and seek legal help if faced with provocation or harassment.
“If anyone faces threats, provocation, or harassment from communal elements in any locality, they should act with patience and restraint and immediately approach the police or local administration. Under no circumstances should anyone take the law into their own hands,” he said.
He also assured that if any difficulties arise regarding the performance of Qurbani, people can approach Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind or its local units for guidance and assistance.
