Deoghar:– In a press conference organized by the District Congress Committee in Deoghar, sharp criticism was directed at the central government over the Women’s Reservation and Delimitation Bills. Congress leaders alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is misleading the public on these important legislations and distorting facts for political gain.
Addressing the media, District Congress President Rajendra Das said that the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam” (Women’s Reservation Act) had already been unanimously passed by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha in September 2023 and had also received the assent of the Hon’ble President. Despite this, he alleged, the BJP-led central government has put it on hold under the pretext of a caste census.
He stated, “The BJP has nothing to do with women’s empowerment. This is merely a political drama staged for electoral benefits.”
Allegation of Conspiracy Through Delimitation:
Speakers at the press conference further alleged that under the guise of the Women’s Reservation Bill, the BJP was attempting to manipulate the delimitation process to increase Lok Sabha seats in its favor, thereby endangering the unity and integrity of the country. They claimed that a united opposition recognized this intent and strongly opposed it, forcing BJP leaders into making baseless statements.
Raising the Issue of Manipur Women:
Congress leaders also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning his silence over the atrocities against women in Manipur. They said that if the Prime Minister truly cared about women, he should have spoken out on such incidents. They further alleged that in states governed by BJP’s “double engine” governments, women are not safe.
On this occasion, Congress State Secretary Avadhesh Prajapati, City President Ravi Keshari, General Secretary Ganesh Das, Vice President Maqsood Alam, senior leader Ashok Singh, Amarendra Kumar Singh ‘Sona’, Media Chairman Brijbhushan Ram, Deepak Kumar Singh, along with several other Congress workers, were present.
