In a major success against Left-Wing Extremism, security forces have foiled a potential Naxal attack by recovering a large cache of explosives and bomb-making materials from a forested area along the Chhattisgarh–Odisha border.
The operation was carried out by the Central Reserve Police Force, based on specific intelligence inputs about suspicious Maoist activity in the region.
High-Explosive Materials Seized
During a search operation in the dense Dhekunpani forest—located near the Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary—security personnel recovered:
70 gelatin sticks, commonly used in IED blasts
Three steel containers, often used to assemble “tiffin bombs”
Bundles of electronic wires for remote detonation systems
Officials believe these materials were intended for a large-scale IED attack, possibly targeting security forces operating in the sensitive border zone.
Strategic Location and Naxal Activity
The Dhekunpani forest lies in a rugged and remote belt connecting Odisha’s Nuapada district with Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband region—areas that have historically seen Naxal movement and hideouts due to difficult terrain and limited accessibility.
Although the region has recently seen improved security conditions, such recoveries indicate that residual Maoist elements remain active and continue to attempt disruptive activities.
Coordinated Operation Prevents Major Attack
Security officials confirmed that the timely action by joint teams has neutralised a serious threat. The operation highlights the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence-sharing and field action between central and state forces.
Following the recovery, forces have:
Intensified search and combing operations in nearby forest areas
Increased patrolling and surveillance along the border
Issued high alerts at local police stations to prevent any retaliatory attempts
Bigger Impact
Experts say such seizures significantly weaken the operational capacity of Naxal groups by cutting off access to explosives and disrupting planned attacks.
The successful operation reinforces the ongoing efforts to stabilise the region and maintain security, especially in areas that were once strongholds of Left-Wing Extremism.
