Raipur/Mahasamund — Panic gripped visitors at the Khallari Temple after a ropeway malfunction left six devotees injured in Mahasamund on Sunday.
The incident took place when the ropeway cable suddenly snapped mid-operation, causing the trolley to fall from a significant height of around 200 feet. The impact left all six passengers hurt, with a few sustaining serious injuries.
Eyewitnesses, along with temple authorities and police, rushed to the scene and immediately began rescue operations. The injured were provided initial medical aid before being transported to the district hospital for further treatment.
Following the accident, officials suspended the ropeway service to avoid any further risk. Early indications suggest a technical failure may have caused the mishap, but authorities have ordered a detailed probe to identify the exact reason and check for any negligence.
A popular pilgrimage site, the Khallari Temple sees heavy footfall, and the ropeway is a key service for devotees, especially during busy periods.
Authorities have assured that thorough safety checks will be conducted before the ropeway resumes operations, while locals have called for stricter maintenance and monitoring of such facilities.
