PM Modi Greets CISF Personnel on Raising Day, Praises Role in Protecting Critical Infrastructure

New Delhi — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended greetings to the personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on the occasion of its Raising Day, commending the force for its discipline, dedication and vital contribution to the nation’s security.

Taking to the social media platform X, the Prime Minister praised the CISF for its commitment to protecting key national assets across the country.

“Warm greetings to all personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force on their Raising Day. Known for their determination, discipline and dedication, the CISF plays a vital role in safeguarding critical infrastructure across the nation. Their unwavering commitment to duty contributes greatly to India’s security and progress,” Modi wrote.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated CISF personnel on the occasion, acknowledging their professionalism and patriotic service.

In his message on X, Shah said the force has consistently demonstrated commitment while performing challenging security duties nationwide. He also paid tribute to the CISF personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“Greetings to the CISF personnel on Raising Day. Whether safeguarding the nation’s vital installations or shielding the nation during crises, their dedication reflects the true spirit of patriotism and professionalism. Tributes to martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for the country,” the Home Minister wrote.

CISF Raising Day commemorates the establishment of the force on March 10, 1969, under an Act of the Parliament of India. The force was created to provide specialised security for industrial units and critical infrastructure owned by the government.

Initially tasked with protecting industries wholly owned by the Central Government, the CISF’s role has expanded significantly over the years. Today, the force safeguards a wide range of installations, including public sector enterprises, joint-venture industrial projects, airports, seaports and major industrial plants.

The force functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs and is responsible for ensuring round-the-clock security of key national assets.

The need for a specialised industrial security force was strongly felt after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, when security threats to critical public sector institutions, oil refineries and power plants highlighted the vulnerability of vital infrastructure during wartime.

Following these concerns, the Government of India established the CISF in 1969 to protect strategic industrial installations and ensure their smooth functioning.

Over the decades, the CISF has grown into one of the country’s key security forces, playing an important role in protecting India’s economic and strategic infrastructure.
