India-UK Partnership 'Trustworthy' and Key to Global Stability, Says PM Modi

Mumbai – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday described the India-UK partnership as trustworthy and forward-looking, highlighting that the combination of India’s dynamism and the UK’s expertise creates a unique synergy.

Speaking after his meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Raj Bhavan, PM Modi said, “Our partnership is trustworthy, driven by talent and technology, which will help make the future of both countries brighter.”

He emphasized that India and the UK are natural partners, bound by shared values such as democracy, freedom, and the rule of law. “In today’s era of global instability, the growing partnership between India and the UK is becoming a crucial foundation for global stability and economic progress,” he added.

Referring to recent developments, PM Modi noted the progress under Prime Minister Starmer’s leadership, including the historic Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement reached during his UK visit in July. He highlighted that Starmer’s visit to India, accompanied by the largest-ever business delegation, reflects the renewed energy and vision driving bilateral ties.

The two leaders exchanged views on peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific and West Asia, as well as ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. PM Modi reiterated that India supports restoring peace through dialogue and diplomacy and is committed to enhancing maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

Significant agreements were also reached on military training cooperation, under which Indian Air Force Flying Instructors will serve as trainers in the UK’s Royal Air Force.

Education ties received a major boost, with PM Modi announcing that nine UK universities will open campuses in India. The Gurugram campus of Southampton University has already been inaugurated, and the first batch of students has enrolled, marking a milestone in India-UK academic collaboration.
