IIM Calcutta ranks 3rd in Asia, 2nd in India in FT survey

IIM Calcutta has strengthened its position among the country's leading business schools, securing the second spot in India and third in Asia in the 2018 Financial Times Masters in Management Ranking.

According to an IIM Calcutta release issued on Wednesday, the institute was ranked 23rd globally, improving significantly from its 28th position in the previous year's ranking. A total of 104 business schools from around the world participated in this year's survey.

The institute also performed strongly in individual academic subjects. Based on feedback from its 2015 graduating batch, IIM Calcutta was ranked first globally in Economics and seventh in Finance among the business schools evaluated for these subjects.

The Financial Times rankings are based on information gathered through two surveys — one conducted among participating business schools and another involving alumni who graduated in 2015. The assessment takes into account various aspects of the programmes, including career outcomes, academic experience and international exposure.

IIM Calcutta said its academic infrastructure, sports facilities and other resources have also improved considerably, helping the institute strengthen its international appeal and attract a growing number of students from overseas.

Its global partnerships have played an important role in expanding international opportunities for students. The institute has collaborations with institutions such as CEMS and ESCP Europe, including double-degree programmes, besides student exchange arrangements with more than 100 leading business schools worldwide.

The exchange programme has also seen steady participation. During the 2017-18 academic year, 133 IIM Calcutta students took part in exchange programmes at partner institutions, while 87 students from international partner schools spent a term at IIM Calcutta.

The improved global ranking, combined with its strong subject-wise performance and expanding international network, highlights IIM Calcutta's growing presence in the global management education landscape.
