Centre seeks report from state govt over gang rape of law student

Ranchi: The Central government has sought a report from the state government over the incident of gang-rape of a law student and subsequent legal action taken so far in the case.

The Union Home Ministry has asked the state government to file a report in this regard. The state government has been asked to submit its report as soon as possible. On November 26 the victim was gang-raped by 12 accused after she was forcibly taken away from the bus stand at Sangrampur under Kanke Police Station while she was sitting with her friend.

The victim had registered an FIR in this regard on November 27 after which the police conducted raids and had arrested all the 12 accused. On the other hand Attorney General Ajit Kumar has also written a letter to DGP KN Choubey to file the charge sheet against the 12 accused as soon as possible.

In his letter, he has also lauded the works of the Ranchi police which acted promptly and arrested all the accused. He said that as soon as the charge sheet is filed a speedy trial would be conducted and within 60 days the culprits will be brought to book.
