After Diwali dates for assembly elections in Jharkhand to be declared

Ranchi: In all probability dates for Vidhan Sabha elections in Jharkhand will be declared immediately after Diwali either on October 28 or 29.

Sources in the officer of the Chief Electoral Officer said that either on October 28 or 29 the dates for the polls in the state can be announced.

The tenure of the 81 member Jharkhand Assembly will come to an end in December prior to which the election process needed to be completed.

Sources claimed that the commission has commenced all the preparations for conducting the assembly elections in the state and the officials involved in this are also being provided training.

If the dates are announced on October 28 or 29 the model code of conduct will immediately come into effect in the state. The Chief Secretary of Jharkhand during his meeting with the officials of the election commission had requested that the polls be conducted in 5 phases whereas the Jharkhand Police has cited security reasons due to naxal problem as a prime concern and has sought elections in four phases in the state.

In 2014 the Assembly Elections in Jharkhand were held in five phases.
