Heavy rainfall lashes Jharkhand, many areas report flood like situation

Ranchi: As the weather department had predicted Sunday turned out to be one of the wettest days for the day as almost all the district reported medium to heavy rainfall which threw the normal life out of gear and leads to flood-like situations in many areas of the state.

Since the early morning dark clouds covered the sky forcing the people to travel on the roads by switching on the headlights of their vehicles while many areas in the city reported waterlogging. However, the rains have given plenty to smile to the farmers who have sped up sowing activity in their fields.

On Sunday Ranchi, Bokaro, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Ramgarh, East and West Singhbhum, Simdega and Saraikela reported bountiful rainfall. According to the local weather department, monsoon activity remained normal in the state during the last 24 hours.

Almost all parts of the state reported medium to heavy rainfall while South Jharkhand has reported heavy rainfall with maximum rainfall recorded at Jamshedpur at 146 mm. The minimum temperature was recorded Darisai 23.6 degree Celsius while Pakur was hottest at 39.4 degree Celsius.

A report from Dhanbad said that more than one-half hours of rainfall lashed the city due to which the low laying areas were flooded. Such was the impact of the rainfall that water went inside the IICU, HDU, Male Medicine Ward, poisoning ward, store, switch house etc.

The condition of the male surgical ward and burn ward was most pathetic and it took several hours for the hospital staff to take out the water. On the other hand in Jamshedpur due to incessant rainfall, the water level in Kharkhai and Swarnarekha river has reached to their highest levels this year.

In Saraikela water got inside the various homes in Godmara village as the water level in the Sanjay river increased rapidly forcing the people to look for safer places to stay. Moreover due to mud being washed away due to heavy rains traffic movement on Simabasai bridge has been completely cut off due to which contact of more than a dozen villages has been cut off from Khuntpani block headquarters.

In Chakardharpur of the West Singhbhum district flood-like situation emerged and many people were caught in the floodwaters following which the district administration was forced to call the NDRF to rescue the people. The NDRF team which reached from Ranchi helped to save 59 people who were caught in the floodwaters.

In wake of the incessant rainfall, DC West Singhbhum Arwa Rajkamal has declared a holiday in all the government and private schools of the Chakardharpur division.
