Deoghar: The mother of a migrant worker from Jharkhand’s Deoghar district, who died in a workplace accident in Andhra Pradesh, has received financial assistance of Rs 50,000 under the Chief Minister’s Jharkhand Migrant Workers Accident Fund.

Labour Superintendent Shailendra Kumar Saha handed over the cheque to Morni Devi, mother of the deceased Jitendra Rajak, on Saturday, following directions from Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuvania.

Rajak, son of Debu Baitha and a resident of Sonaraithari block, was employed at a bridge construction project in Visakhapatnam. He died on September 7, 2026, after falling from the bridge while working at the site.

After receiving an application from the deceased worker’s mother, the Sonaraithari block administration conducted an inquiry and forwarded the case to the Labour Superintendent for further action. The financial assistance was subsequently sanctioned under the state government’s migrant workers’ welfare scheme.

The Labour Department also informed the family about the benefits available through migrant worker registration and appealed to Jharkhand residents working outside the state to register themselves on the Shramadhan portal.

Under the scheme, dependants of registered migrant workers are entitled to Rs 2 lakh in the event of accidental or natural death, while the assistance amount for unregistered workers is Rs 1.5 lakh. Financial support is also provided in cases involving the loss of limbs or eyesight.

Additionally, the scheme provides up to Rs 50,000 to dependants towards transporting the deceased worker’s body to their native place.

The Labour Department has urged migrant workers to complete their registration to ensure that their families can access the benefits and financial support available under the scheme.
