Ranchi: With the Chhath festival approaching, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation has intensified preparations to ensure clean and safe arrangements for devotees at the city's ponds and riverbanks. Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav personally inspected several major Chhath sites along with a team of officials to review the progress of preparatory work.
The inspection covered Argora Pond, Button Pond, the Swarnarekha river ghat and Tiril Pond. During the visit, the Municipal Commissioner directed officials to complete cleaning operations at all designated Chhath ghats before the festival and deploy additional sanitation workers wherever required.
He also instructed the authorities to remove encroachments around the water bodies and ensure adequate lighting, electricity and security arrangements for devotees.
Special attention was given to water safety. Officials were directed to install barricades and bamboo railings to prevent devotees from entering deep areas of the ponds during religious rituals. Instructions were also issued to repair damaged pond boundaries, strengthen fencing, undertake painting work and complete other essential civil repairs.
Addressing concerns over water pollution, Gaurav directed officials to prevent dirty drain water from entering the ponds wherever such problems exist. He also instructed them to use alum, E-balls and bleaching powder as part of the water-cleaning measures.
Representatives of various Chhath Puja committees were also consulted during the inspection to understand their requirements and coordinate preparations at the respective ghats.
At present, the municipal corporation is deploying four to five sanitation workers at each pond every day. The civic body's target is to complete cleaning and all essential infrastructure and safety arrangements before the festival.
The inspection is part of the corporation's efforts to ensure that devotees have access to hygienic surroundings, safer water bodies and better facilities during one of Jharkhand's most widely celebrated festivals.
