Deoghar: A modern fish farm and fish brood bank are being developed at Gidhni Dam in Deoghar district at an estimated cost of ?417.26 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The project is expected to strengthen local fisheries infrastructure, increase fish production and create livelihood opportunities for fishermen and other residents.
Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuvania inspected the ongoing construction work on Saturday and directed the officials concerned and the construction agency to maintain quality standards and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.
During the inspection, he reviewed the progress of key facilities, including breeding pools, hatching pools and the egg collection room. Expressing concern over certain aspects of construction quality, he instructed the construction agency and engineers from the Building Division to take corrective measures and ensure that all work met the required standards.
The project includes a fish hatchery, water tank, two breeding pools, two hatching pools, 12 nursery ponds, four rearing ponds, a stocking pond, a storage room and an office building.
According to officials, several components have already been completed, including the boundary walls, office building, guard room, concrete roads, three deep borewells and multiple ponds. Electrical installations, entry gates and plumbing work are nearing completion.
The Deputy Commissioner said the facility would help improve fish production and ensure the local availability of quality fish seeds, reducing dependence on supplies from outside the district. He added that the project would also open up employment and income-generation opportunities for fishermen and local communities.
Deputy Development Commissioner Piyush Sinha, District Fisheries Officer Ranvijay and other officials accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the inspection.
