Ramgarh Sadar Hospital Toilets Raise Serious Concerns Over Hygiene and Patient Safety

Poor sanitation at the toilets of Sadar Hospital in Ramgarh has raised concerns over hygiene and the basic facilities available to patients and their attendants.

The toilets located near the emergency ward and emergency doctors’ room were reportedly found in an unhygienic condition. Dirty water and waste were seen on the floors, while traces of human waste were reported at several places. Flush tanks were filled with garbage and a number of taps were reportedly non-functional, adding to the difficulties faced by patients.

Women’s toilet lacks proper sanitary waste disposal

The women’s toilet was also reported to lack adequate arrangements for the safe disposal of used sanitary pads. Used pads and other waste lying in different places have reportedly contributed to foul odour and raised concerns about hygiene and the possible spread of infections.

The toilet designated for persons with disabilities was also reported to be in poor condition, raising questions about whether essential facilities are being maintained for patients with special needs.

Used condoms found, monitoring questioned

The reported presence of used condoms and their packets on the floors and around the flush tanks has raised additional questions about cleanliness, access control and monitoring within the hospital premises.

The issue has also prompted questions about the effectiveness of routine inspections and cleaning arrangements at the hospital, particularly in areas used by patients and their attendants.

Patients and attendants seek immediate action

Patients and their family members have urged the hospital management and district administration to arrange immediate cleaning of the toilets and ensure regular monitoring of sanitation facilities. They have also sought repairs to damaged taps and flushes, adequate dustbins for sanitary and other waste, and stronger supervision of cleanliness and activities within the hospital premises.

As a major government healthcare facility in the district, Sadar Hospital is expected to maintain basic hygiene standards, particularly in high-use areas such as emergency facilities and public toilets. The condition of the toilets has therefore brought renewed attention to the need for regular inspection, timely maintenance and clearly defined responsibility for sanitation services.
