Ranchi Schools from KG to Class 12 to Remain Closed on September 26 Amid Rain Alert

All government and private schools in Ranchi district will remain closed for students on September 26, 2026, in view of the prevailing weather conditions and the forecast of heavy rainfall. The order has been issued by Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

The closure will apply to all government schools, government-aided institutions, minority schools and private schools across the district. Academic activities for students from KG to Class 12 will remain suspended for the day.

The district administration said the decision was taken after considering the special weather bulletin issued on September 25 by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi. The weather department has issued rainfall and thunderstorm-related warnings for Jharkhand, prompting the administration to take precautionary measures for the safety of students.

Teachers, Non-Teaching Staff to Report to Schools

Although students will remain on holiday, teachers and non-teaching staff of government schools have been directed to report as scheduled. They will also be required to mark their attendance on the e-Vidyavahini platform and carry out non-academic duties from their respective schools.

In cases where a mandatory examination has already been scheduled at any school during the closure period, the head of the concerned institution may take an appropriate decision regarding its conduct.

Student Safety Given Priority

The district administration said the precautionary closure has been ordered to protect students from possible risks arising from heavy rain, waterlogging and difficulties in transportation.

All school managements have been directed to comply strictly with the order. The administration has warned that institutions failing to follow the directions may face action under the relevant provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
