JLKM submits six-point memorandum to Governor over land, pollution and public issues in Kolhan

The Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) has submitted a six-point memorandum to the Governor, raising a range of public grievances concerning Bahragora and Dhalbhumgarh blocks of East Singhbhum district.

A delegation from the JLKM's Kolhan division, led by divisional vice-presidents Kalan Mahto and Ravinder Kumar Mahto, submitted the memorandum and sought government intervention on issues ranging from erosion of agricultural land to pollution, mining and industrial waste management.

One of the key demands concerned farmers affected by erosion along the Subarnarekha River. The JLKM sought compensation and a rehabilitation package for affected families, along with the construction of embankments along vulnerable stretches of the river to prevent further loss of agricultural land.

The delegation also called for strict action against alleged illegal mining, crusher operations and blasting activities in the region.

It sought an investigation into the environmental clearance granted to Sharda Projects Limited at Muradewata, along with an assessment of the company's waste disposal arrangements.

The JLKM also raised allegations of pollution and encroachment on forest land against Globus Spirits Limited at Ulda and demanded an inquiry into the matter.

Another demand concerned Gajanan Ferro Private Limited at Kadambeda. The organisation sought action over alleged pollution from the unit and called for restrictions on the use of high-volume sirens that, according to the delegation, are causing problems for local residents.

The memorandum also highlighted concerns over silica dust pollution allegedly linked to Khetan Enterprises at Betjharia and Krishna & Krishna Udyog at Joresol in Dhalbhumgarh.

The JLKM demanded medical camps in areas affected by suspected silicosis, along with compensation for affected workers and the families of those who have died. It also sought employment opportunities for dependants of affected families.

The delegation said the issues raised in the memorandum affect the health, livelihoods and environmental safety of people living in the affected areas.

The JLKM warned that if the authorities fail to take timely action on the demands, the organisation would launch an agitation.

The allegations and demands raised by the JLKM are subject to examination by the concerned authorities.
