Babulal Marandi flags 5-6 month delay in pensions for elderly, widows and disabled in Jharkhand

Leader of Opposition in Jharkhand Assembly Babulal Marandi has questioned the state government over the alleged delay in payment of pensions to elderly, widows and persons with disabilities, claiming that many beneficiaries have not received their dues for the past five to six months.

Marandi said the monthly pension may appear to be a small amount, but for economically vulnerable beneficiaries it often provides essential support for medicines, food and other basic household expenses.

He said a large number of elderly people, widows and persons with disabilities depend on these regular payments to meet their day-to-day needs. While some beneficiaries use the money to purchase medicines, others rely on it to meet household expenses, including food.

According to Marandi, prolonged delays in pension payments are placing additional financial pressure on families that have few or no alternative sources of income.

He said the situation could become particularly difficult for beneficiaries who depend on the pension for medical treatment and essential food supplies.

Targeting the state government, Marandi said that while Rs 1,000 might appear insignificant to some, the same amount can be crucial for a vulnerable elderly person seeking medical treatment. For a widow, it can provide support in running the household, while for a person with a disability, it can help reduce dependence on family members or others for basic expenses.

The Leader of Opposition urged the government to intervene immediately and clear all pending pension payments.

He said beneficiaries who have been waiting for several months should receive their outstanding dues at the earliest so that they can get relief from the financial difficulties caused by the delay.
