The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to turn Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday celebrations into a month-long public outreach campaign this year. The party will organise the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ from September 17 to October 17 to highlight what it describes as the major achievements of Modi’s 25-year public life and take the message of his government’s welfare and development initiatives to households across Jharkhand and the country.
A state-level workshop was organised in Ranchi on Monday to chalk out the strategy for the campaign and prepare party workers for the programmes planned during the month.
Speaking at the workshop, BJP Jharkhand president and Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu said the campaign would focus on reaching people at the grassroots level and highlighting welfare initiatives aimed at the weaker and economically disadvantaged sections of society.
Sahu said Modi had spent the past 12 years working with a sense of service towards the people and described his public life as an example of dedication and sacrifice. He claimed that central government welfare schemes had reached households across the country and said the Prime Minister had consistently kept national interest at the centre of his policies.
He also argued that honest and committed leadership can bring about a major transformation in a state or country. According to Sahu, the BJP wants the campaign to showcase how government schemes and development programmes have affected ordinary citizens.
Opposition leader and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi said Modi’s tenure had been marked by a series of major development initiatives. He urged party workers to take the government’s work in the areas of governance, infrastructure and welfare to the people.
Referring specifically to Jharkhand, Marandi highlighted the construction of a bridge over the Ganga in Sahibganj, the establishment of an AIIMS, the setting up of three medical colleges, redevelopment of railway stations and large-scale highway construction.
He said the campaign would provide an opportunity to explain to people how development projects undertaken during the past 12 years had changed infrastructure and public services in Jharkhand.
BJP national minister Pradeep Verma said this year marks 25 years of Modi’s public life and called upon party workers to organise the campaign on a larger scale. He stressed that young people, students, women and beneficiaries of central government schemes should be actively involved in the programmes.
Verma said the campaign should not only inform people about government schemes but also help eligible beneficiaries access them. Party workers, he added, should assist people at the block level in understanding and availing themselves of the benefits of various schemes.
BJP state organisation general secretary Karmveer Singh said that unlike previous years, when Modi’s birthday was generally observed through a fortnight-long programme, the party would conduct activities for an entire month under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
As part of preparations, district-level workshops will be held on September 5, 6 and 7, followed by mandal-level workshops on September 8, 9 and 10. The party has also constituted teams for 14 different programmes, with a state-level coordinator and co-coordinator assigned to each activity.
Singh called upon BJP state office-bearers, MPs, MLAs and grassroots workers to participate actively in the campaign and ensure that the programmes reach as many people as possible.
The workshop was conducted by state general secretary Manoj Singh, while Biranchi Narayan delivered the vote of thanks.
A large number of senior BJP leaders, MPs, MLAs, office-bearers and district-level functionaries attended the workshop, including former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, Union Minister Annapurna Devi, former state presidents Ravindra Rai and Deepak Prakash, along with several state office-bearers, legislators and party spokespersons.
District presidents and district in-charges from all 30 organisational districts of the Jharkhand BJP were also present.
The month-long campaign is expected to combine public outreach, welfare awareness and service-oriented activities, giving the BJP an opportunity to engage directly with beneficiaries and strengthen its organisational network across the state.
