Gumla Police have achieved a major breakthrough by busting an interstate criminal gang allegedly involved in theft, snatching and armed robberies across several states. Eleven members of the gang, known as the **‘Korai Gang’**, have been arrested and sent to jail.
The police have also solved two major gold robbery cases reported in **Palkot and Ghaghra areas of Gumla district**, in which gold traders were allegedly robbed of valuables worth crores of rupees.
Gumla Superintendent of Police **Harish Bin Zaman** said at a press conference that the breakthrough came after police received a tip-off that around six to seven people were gathered on a hill near the Bilung-Bira Road in the Palkot police station area, in front of the brick kiln owned by Sumit Kesari. They were allegedly planning to carry out a criminal operation.
The information was verified and, following instructions from senior officers, a **Special Investigation Team (SIT)** headed by the Basia Sub-Divisional Police Officer was formed. The team reached the location and questioned and searched the suspects. During the search, police recovered illegal firearms, cash, mobile phones and other items.
According to the SP, the gang had been operating across state borders and was allegedly involved in several cases of theft, snatching and robbery.
Police initially arrested **seven suspects from Bilung-Bira in Palkot** based on the information received. Acting on their leads, four more accused persons were subsequently arrested, taking the total number of arrests to 11.
The police recovered approximately **70 grams of gold, around 1.5 kg of silver, Rs 1.70 lakh in cash, one country-made pistol, two country-made firearms, mobile phones and other articles** from the arrested suspects.
The SP said the investigation has established the involvement of the gang in the two major gold robbery cases in Palkot and Ghaghra. Further investigation is underway, while police teams are continuing efforts to arrest some smaller members of the gang who are still absconding.
### The arrested accused are:
1. **R. Arjun alias Abla Arjun**, 40, son of Avla Rayna, Purwakot, Korai police station, Jajpur, Odisha.
2. **Akshay Kabadi**, 26, son of Kabadi Jagannath, Purwakot, Korai police station, Jajpur, Odisha.
3. **Yeshu Das**, 25, son of Nageshwar Das, Purwakot, Korai police station, Jajpur, Odisha.
4. **Kishun Das**, 27, son of Nageshwar Das, Purwakot, Korai police station, Jajpur, Odisha.
5. **Avla Shekhar**, around 35, son of late Avla Ravana, Purwakot, Korai police station, Jajpur, Odisha.
6. **Arjun Das**, resident of Jajpur, Odisha.
7. **Naikel Sawan**, around 30, resident of Jajpur, Odisha.
8. **Manoj Das**, around 26, resident of Jajpur, Odisha.
9. **Bhola Datt**, around 20, son of Biju Das, Jajpur, Odisha.
10. **Karan Netam**, 28, son of Jagannath Netam, VK area, Mahasamund, Chhattisgarh.
11. **Mekla Yeshu**, around 29, son of Mekla Rambabu, Gartipattanam, Mana area, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
### Police team involved
The raid and investigation were carried out with the involvement of senior police officers and personnel, including **Shruti, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Chainpur; Suresh Prasad, Circle Officer, Gumla; Shivshankar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Basia; Vinay Kumar, Police Circle Inspector, Sisai; Gulshan Bhangra, Police Circle Inspector; Police Sub-Inspector Ankit Raj, Officer-in-Charge, Palkot; and Police Sub-Inspector Mohan Kumar Singh, Officer-in-Charge, Ghaghra**.
The Gumla Police said the **SIT and the technical branch played a crucial role** in identifying and tracking the members of the interstate gang and solving the two robbery cases.
