

Deoghar: A 65-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death and his body dumped at Sonwa Dangal under Rikhia police station area on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Ramki Mahto, a resident of Bihroji village. Deep injury marks were found on his forehead, while injuries were also noticed near the hydrocele area. The deceased’s bicycle and slippers were recovered from a bush near the spot. His mobile phone and charger were found some distance away.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, Rikhia police station in-charge Prabhat Kumar, sub-inspectors Shakeel Ahmed and Ajay Kumar Singh, Mukhiya Anil Kumar Sah and Panchayat Samiti member Pappu Rao, along with a large number of local residents, reached the spot. Police inspected the scene, prepared the inquest report and sent the body to Deoghar Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.The deceased’s son, Damru Yadav, said his father used to work at a peda shop in Deoghar and usually returned home around 10 pm every day.
He alleged that relatives had been harassing the family for a long time over a land dispute. He further claimed that around a month ago, the relatives had demolished their house and assaulted his father.Damru Yadav alleged that four to five relatives were allegedly waiting in ambush at Sonwa Dangal on Saturday night. He claimed that they attacked his father when they found him alone, resulting in his death.
However, the exact motive behind the killing and the involvement of any individuals will be established only after police investigation.Police have secured the articles recovered from the spot for further investigation and are questioning local residents. No FIR had been registered in the case till the time of filing this report. Police said further action would be taken on the basis of the investigation and the post-mortem report.
