Ramgarh: A senior government official from Jharkhand’s Giridih district was killed on Tuesday in Ramgarh district in a violent incident allegedly linked to a land dispute, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Sub-Registrar Baleshwar Patel. The incident occurred in Balsagara village under the Mandu police station limits and has caused widespread shock in the area.
According to preliminary reports, Patel had visited his ancestral village on the occasion of Hul Diwas, a state holiday in Jharkhand. On Tuesday morning, he went to a disputed plot of land where a long-standing conflict was ongoing. An argument soon broke out between him and some local individuals.

Eyewitnesses said the situation quickly escalated, and Patel was allegedly attacked with stones, leaving him critically injured.
Local residents alerted the police, who rushed to the spot. However, Patel had already succumbed to his injuries before help could reach him.
Police later reached the scene, secured the area, and began collecting forensic evidence. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Investigators are questioning local residents to identify those involved and reconstruct the sequence of events. While initial findings point to a land dispute as the trigger, officials said all possible angles are being examined before drawing conclusions.
Police have launched raids and intensified efforts to track down the accused, expressing confidence that arrests will be made soon.
The killing of a gazetted officer in broad daylight has sent shockwaves through administrative circles and raised renewed concerns over recurring land-related violence in parts of Jharkhand.
Authorities have assured that strict action will follow once the investigation progresses further.
