
Jamshedpur: The first Graduation Ceremony of Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC) is set to become a landmark event in Jharkhand’s higher education and healthcare landscape, with Governor Santosh Gangwar scheduled to grace the occasion and address the graduating students.
The convocation, to be held on June 1 at the MTMC campus in Baridih, will mark the graduation of the institution’s inaugural MBBS batch.
A total of 133 young doctors from the 2020–21 academic session will receive their degrees, becoming the first medical graduates produced by the college since its establishment.
The ceremony will also be attended by Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Irfan Ansari and Vijay Kumar, Senior Advisor in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Senior leaders from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Tata Steel, faculty members, healthcare professionals, parents and distinguished guests are expected to be present.
Established in 2020 through a unique collaboration between MAHE and Tata Steel, MTMC has emerged as a pioneering institution in medical education. Widely recognised as India’s first private–private partnership model in the sector, the college was founded with the vision of expanding access to quality medical education while strengthening healthcare services in Eastern India.
Over the years, the institution has grown rapidly and today caters to more than 1,286 students across medical, allied health sciences and postgraduate programmes.
The graduation of its first MBBS batch is being seen as a major milestone in its journey towards becoming a centre of excellence in healthcare education and research.
Dean Brig. (Dr.) H.C. Bandhu said the convocation is a proud and emotional moment for the institution, reflecting the dedication of students and faculty alike. He expressed confidence that the graduating doctors would uphold the values of professionalism, compassion and service in their future careers.
Officials from MAHE and Tata Steel described the event as a testament to the success of a partnership aimed at creating opportunities, improving healthcare access and contributing to the long-term development of Jharkhand and the region.
As MTMC prepares to celebrate its first graduating class, the institution is also looking ahead to a future focused on academic excellence, innovation and community-oriented healthcare.
