Ranchi: Tension gripped the Doranda area of Ranchi on Thursday after a youth injured in an assault case died during treatment, triggering protests by family members and local residents.
The deceased, identified as Mohammad Tanveer Ansari, was a resident of Manitola in Ranchi. He had reportedly suffered critical injuries in an attack on Tuesday and succumbed during treatment on Thursday.
Following his death, angry relatives and locals brought Tanveer’s body from RIMS and staged a protest outside the Doranda police station. Protesters blocked the main road, causing traffic disruption in the area, and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.
Family members accused the police of failing to take prompt and strict action after the assault, alleging that the delay encouraged the accused persons. They also demanded compensation for the victim’s family.
According to the FIR lodged at Doranda police station, three persons — Mohammad Javed, Rizwan and Golden alias Ijaz, all residents of Firdous Nagar in the Manitola area — have been named in the case.
The complaint states that the accused intercepted Tanveer near Hindustan Chowk on Tuesday and allegedly attacked him on the head with an iron rod, leaving him critically injured. He reportedly received nearly 40 stitches on his head.
Locals rushed the injured Tanveer to Doranda Hospital immediately after the attack. He was later referred to Sadar Hospital and then to RIMS for treatment. Subsequently, he was shifted to a private hospital in Kokar for advanced care, where he died during treatment.
In her complaint, the deceased’s wife, Khateja Khatoon, also alleged that the accused had threatened to kill the family.
Police officials said raids are underway to arrest the accused and that the matter is being investigated.
