Three Cyber Fraudsters Arrested for Posing as Customer Care Executives

Deoghar. In a major crackdown against cyber crime, Deoghar Police arrested three cyber fraudsters from Sonaraythari police station area for allegedly cheating consumers by posing as fake customer care executives of leading companies. The action was carried out under the direction of SP Praveen Pushkar and supervised by Deputy Superintendent of Police Raja Kumar Mitra.
Police said a secret tip-off was received regarding a gang involved in online fraud by uploading fake mobile numbers on Google in the name of Flipkart, Amazon, PhonePe Customer Care and Airtel Payment Bank officials. Acting on the information, a raid was conducted and three accused were arrested.
During preliminary investigation, police found that the accused used to trap consumers by pretending to be customer care executives and promising cashback offers, loan approvals and assistance related to PM Kisan Yojana and SBI credit cards. In several cases, victims were persuaded to create PhonePe gift cards, which were later redeemed by the fraudsters to siphon off money.
The accused also allegedly posed as Airtel Payment Bank officials and misled consumers through the Airtel Thanks App by falsely claiming to reactivate blocked cards and resolve banking issues.The arrested accused have been identified as 38-year-old Kartik Das, son of Congress Das, resident of Nawapatro under Madhupur police station, 26-year-old Gulam Mustafa, son of Kurban Ansari, resident of Kuruwa under Sonaraythari police station, and 27-year-old Shivanandan Das, son of Jhaksu Das, also a resident of Nawapatro under Madhupur police station. All three are residents of Deoghar district.
Police seized four mobile phones and four SIM cards from the possession of the accused. Investigation of the seized devices reportedly revealed evidence linked to cyber fraud activities.The raid was conducted by Cyber Police Station officer Santosh Kumar Mandal along with police teams from Sonaraythari and Madhupur police stations. Police officials said the drive against cyber criminals will continue in the district.
