Jamshedpur: A spell of intense heat continues to grip Jharkhand, with temperatures soaring past the 42–43°C mark in several districts. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Daltonganj remained the hottest at 43.4°C, while Jamshedpur and Chaibasa recorded 42.4°C each.
The state capital Ranchi logged 38.6°C, staying above normal levels. Minimum temperatures showed little fluctuation, with Gumla recording the lowest at 17.7°C, while most regions experienced warm nights between 22°C and 26°C.
Rainfall activity remained almost absent, barring a marginal 0.2 mm in Jamshedpur.“Dry conditions will dominate for the next 48 hours, keeping the heat stress high, especially during the afternoon hours,” said a weather official.
The prevailing conditions are being influenced by an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Chhattisgarh along with a trough stretching from Bihar towards the Northeast. A shift in weather is expected from April 24, when partly cloudy skies and isolated light rain or thunderstorms may develop over eastern parts of the state.
This activity is likely to spread across northeastern, southern and central Jharkhand between April 25 and 27, offering intermittent relief. “Moisture incursion and local instability could trigger brief thunderstorms, which may bring down temperatures slightly but won’t end the heat entirely,” the official added. Residents can expect hot conditions to persist in the immediate term, with gradual signs of rainfall activity emerging towards the weekend.
