Ranchi — The Ranchi ashram of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) organised a traditional Sadhu Bhandara on Friday to commemorate the 74th Mahasamadhi anniversary of its founder, Paramahansa Yogananda, the globally revered spiritual teacher and author of the celebrated book Autobiography of a Yogi.
Paramahansa Yogananda attained mahasamadhi on March 7, 1952. The occasion is observed annually at YSS centres with devotional programmes and acts of service dedicated to spiritual harmony and reverence for monastic traditions.
Continuing this tradition, the Ranchi ashram hosted nearly 50 sadhus and sadhavis from different spiritual institutions and ashrams in and around the city. The visiting monks and nuns were welcomed with respect and served a specially prepared meal as part of the Sadhu Bhandara ceremony.
As a mark of honour for their spiritual commitment, the guests were also presented with shawls, garlands, clothing and a token monetary offering. The sannyasis of the Yogoda Satsanga Society personally served the visiting monastics, reflecting India’s long-standing spiritual custom of honouring saints and renunciates.
The programme saw participation from several prominent spiritual organisations, including the Ramakrishna Mission (Tupudana and Morabadi), Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Shri Shri Anandamayi Sangh, Matrikashram, Chinmaya Ashram, Maharshi Mehi Ashram and Ram Mandir.
The Ranchi ashram holds special historical importance for the organisation, as it was here in 1917 that Paramahansa Yogananda established the first Yogoda Satsanga school, integrating spiritual training with modern education.
Through such events, the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India continues to promote the ideals of selfless service, spiritual unity and respect for India’s rich spiritual heritage.
