Ranchi: Few moments can match pride of a father when, at retirement, his daughter stands before him in police uniform and offers a salute. Such an emotional moment recently went viral from Jharkhand, showing a retired IAS officer being saluted by his daughter, now an IPS officer in training.
Reacting to this moment, Shekhar Jamuar, director of sports department, said nothing could be greater for a father than seeing his child salute him as an IPS officer. He said every parent wishes their children create their own identity, become bigger than their parents, and that parents are known through achievements of their children, not other way around.
Jamuar described this experience as biggest achievement of his life, calling it blessing of God and result of years of service to society. He said whatever he received came through commitment to duty, standing for justice, and goodwill of people he met during service.
Jamuar’s son is currently in final year of data science at IIT Chennai, while daughter Shakshi Jamuar was selected as an IPS officer in 2024 and is undergoing training. Calling himself a fortunate father, Jamuar said both children standing on their own feet is nothing less than divine grace.

He clarified he never pressured his children to prepare for civil services, but his own dedication towards work and social responsibility created an environment that inspired his daughter. He said he only told her that civil services provide opportunity to serve society from any position. Inspired soon after Class 10, she prepared without going to Delhi or joining specialised coaching, staying in Garhwa during preparation.
Jamuar said real success in life is contribution to humanity and society, and that service remains true wealth after retirement. He considers himself lucky that next generation is ready to carry forward values of service.
After retirement, Jamuar expressed desire to continue working for society, especially for education of underprivileged, though no concrete plan has been finalised yet. He said society’s outlook towards daughters is changing and appealed to girls, saying if you make up your mind, nothing is impossible.
