Ranchi: Innerwheel Ranchi South conducted a cervical cancer awareness programme on Wednesday at Government Secondary School near Police Line in Kanke. The workshop aimed to educate schoolgirls and their parents about vaccination that helps prevent cervical cancer.
District Education Officer Badal Raj attended the event as chief guest. The program began with a lamp-lighting ceremony, and guests were honoured with shawls, plants, and mementos by the club. The primary goal was to raise awareness about vaccines that can protect against cervical cancer and encourage informed decisions by parents and students ahead of an upcoming vaccination camp.
Club members explained the benefits of vaccination and advised families to discuss the matter at home so that consent is ensured when the camp is held. Sanitary napkins were distributed among older girls, while younger students were educated about good and bad touch. Notebooks were also given to underprivileged children.
Cancer specialist Dr. Satish Sharma participated and played an important role in guiding both students and parents. The event was chaired by Neelam Lalit, with Vice President Ranjana Shukla, Secretary Annu Mallik, and 15 other club members present. The program focused on empowering girls and families with knowledge to protect their health.
