Ranchi: Additional Director General of Police (Training & Modernization), Suman Gupta, chaired a high-level review meeting on Wednesday at the state police headquarters to evaluate the implementation and preparedness of investigative procedures under the newly introduced criminal laws.
The meeting was attended by Zonal Inspectors General, Range Deputy Inspectors General, Senior Superintendents of Police, and Superintendents of Police—including those from the Railway division—both in person and virtually. Among the key officers physically present were Kartik S., DIG (Jharkhand State Police) and Nodal Officer for CCTNS; Sandhya Rani Mehta, DIG (Crime Research Division); and Rishabh Jha, SP (ATS), along with their teams from the police headquarters.
ADG Gupta assessed the current use of electronic tools in criminal investigations, the pace of case resolution, and the integration of scientific methods during probes. The review focused on key aspects such as videography and photography of crime scenes, electronic recording of victim and witness statements, and the use of the state’s e-Sakshya mobile app to consolidate digital evidence.
All districts were directed to ensure 100% use of electronic tools in evidence collection, particularly in cases that carry a punishment of seven years or more. In such instances, immediate deployment of forensic teams to the crime scene was made mandatory. Investigating officers were instructed to strictly adhere to the 60- and 90-day timelines for completing investigations, as outlined in the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
To enforce these directives, Zonal DIGs have been assigned the task of overseeing district-level compliance and conducting regular reviews of progress and implementation.
ADG Gupta stressed the need for real-time and high-quality data entry into the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS). To further strengthen data management and digital capabilities, a state-level training campaign will be organized for police officers and personnel during May and June 2025.
