Stone pelting over Durga Puja idol immersion procession in Sahibganj, six policemen including Sadar SDPO injured

Sahibganj: A major brawl took place in this district as stones were pelted at the Chaiti Durgapuja immersion procession in which many people including policemen sustained injuries.

The stone pelting between the two sides created an atmosphere of panic during which shops and vehicles in the area were vandalized. At the same time, a scooty parked on the spot was set on fire. Seeing the deteriorating atmosphere, force was used by the police.

According to the information received, this incident of stone pelting took place during the passage of Chaiti Durga immersion procession through Krishna Nagar. According to the Chaiti Durga Puja Committee, when the immersion procession was passing near Krishnanagar Badi Durga Temple, suddenly stones started pelting at the procession. Due to the sudden stone pelting, there was a stampede on the spot.

Due to this stone pelting, apart from the people of the administration who were in the procession, many members of the worship committee were also injured. Sadar SDPO Rajendra Dubey was also injured in this stone pelting. Whereas in relation to the incident, people from the other side say that when the immersion procession was going, some people started vandalizing the nearby shops and houses.

At the same time, a scooty parked near a shop was also set on fire. The atmosphere deteriorated after the vandalism. After the incident, the procession stopped at the same place. DC Ramniwas Yadav and SP Anuranjan Kispotta reached the spot after getting information about the incident. SDO Rahulji Anandji and SDPO Rajendra Dubey were already with the procession.

Apart from JAP jawans, the police of all the police stations of the district were also called on the spot. All the police and administrative officers were camping on the spot.

The police had to use mild force to bring the situation back to normal. Bricks and stones were strewn everywhere on the Krishnanagar main road and the surrounding streets. After the initiative of the administration, the immersion procession was sent to Ganga Ghat.
