Mandar Bypolls: BJP’s Gangotri Kujur files nomination

Ranchi: Accompanied by Babulal Marandi and Sudesh Mahto BJP’s Gangotri Kujur on Monday filed her nominations for the bypolls on the Mandar (ST) seat of the Jharkhand Assembly.

In the year 2014, she got elected from the seat and remained in the MLA till 2019. She was also the first woman to represent the seat in the assembly. However, in 2019 she was denied the ticket and the party had fielded Dev Kumar Dhan who lost to Bandhu Tirkey.

State BJP president Deepak Prakash and the organization general secretary of the BJP Dharampal Singh were present on the occasion. Prior to filing her nominations, Gangotri Kujur offered prayers at a local temple and thereafter reached the house of Ranchi MLA CP Singh from where she went to file her nominations.

Speaking after the nomination process she said that she was thankful to the party for giving her another opportunity and exuded confidence that she will be able to repeat the performance of 2014 as people were with her. She said that completing the pending development works of the constituency will be her priority apart from that focus will be also on the health and education sectors.

Mandar seat of Jharkhand Assembly is reserved for ST is located in Ranchi district but is part of Lohardaga Lok Sabha seat. The majority of the people live in rural areas. Having an overall population of 4.62 lakh 60 percent of the residents are tribals in the constituency. 

The main contest in this election is between Congress nominee Shilpi Neha Tirkey and Gangotri Kujur. Shilpi is the daughter of the former Mandar MLA Bandhu Tirkey who has represented the seat on three occasions. He lost his membership of the house after he was convicted in a DA case by a special CBI court. The voting on the seat will be held on June 23 while the counting of votes will be on June 26.
