Budget Session: Legislators raise objections over removal of contractual employees

Ranchi: The state government on Monday assured that any decision over the future of contractual employees such as programmers and computer operators who have been working right from the state headquarters to block and circle offices for years will be taken only after the report of a high powered committee which has been constituted over the issue.

Parliamentary affairs minister Alamgir Alam by replying to a question raised by BJP MLA C P Singh said that the state government has constituted a high level committee which will be considering all the aspects related to the future of the  contractual employees and accordingly a decision will be taken. He said that the government was serious over the issue and a concrete decision will only be taken after necessary deliberations.

Earlier the BJP MLA requested the state government that until the report comes the government should cancel the tender which has been issued for hiring on these post through an outsourcing agency. He also demanded that the government should give assurance that the contractual employees who have been working since long they will not be removed from their post and the honorarium being paid to them will also be not reduced.

Joining in the debate MLA Pradeep Yadav said that even the Supreme Court has given a clear order that contractual employees cannot be hired by removing another set of of contractual employees.

BJP MLA Bhanu Pratap Shahi pointed that in Garhwa district many contractual employees have been removed and through outsourcing people are being recruited and in such a situation such people who have worked for at least 10 years in their jobs are facing problems. MLAs cutting across party lines requested the government not to remove these contractual employees.

Speaker Ravindranath Mahto later directed the parliamentary affairs minister to collect all the necessary information from the concerned departments and give reply on the matter next date.
