Sophie Turner Injured; ‘Tomb Raider’ Series Filming Temporarily Halted

Los Angeles— Production on the much-anticipated *Tomb Raider* series has been temporarily suspended after its lead star Sophie Turner sustained a minor injury.

In an official statement, Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that filming has been paused as a precaution to allow Turner adequate time to recover. The studio added that work is expected to resume soon. While the exact nature and location of the injury remain unclear, reports suggest the break in production could last around two weeks, with crew members continuing to be paid during the downtime.

The series, created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is being developed for Prime Video in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics. Filming is primarily taking place in the United Kingdom, and production had officially kicked off earlier this year with the release of a first-look image featuring Turner as the iconic adventurer Lara Croft.

The show is based on the globally popular Tomb Raider franchise, which first launched in 1996 and follows the exploits of archaeologist Lara Croft. Over the years, the character has become one of the most recognizable figures in gaming history, even earning a record in the Guinness World Records as the “Most Successful Human Videogame Heroine.”

The franchise has also seen successful film adaptations, with Angelina Jolie portraying Lara Croft in the early 2000s films, followed by Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot.

Alongside Turner, the series features an ensemble cast including Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, and Celia Imrie, among others. Waller-Bridge serves as creator, writer, and executive producer, working with co-showrunner Chad Hodge, while Jonathan Van Tulleken directs.

Despite the brief interruption, the project remains on track, with expectations that filming will resume once Turner has fully recovered.
