Mrunal Thakur teaches Adivi Sesh Marathi, makes him recreate ‘Ashi Hi Banva Banvi’ dialogues

Mumbai — Actress Mrunal Thakur recently embraced her Marathi roots while shooting for her upcoming film Dacoit, giving co-star Adivi Sesh a fun crash course in Marathi. The light-hearted moment also saw her encouraging him to recreate iconic dialogues and songs from classic Marathi cinema.

In a video shared on social media, Mrunal is seen turning the camera toward Sesh as she teaches him phrases such as “kay re tu?”, “chomdi,” and “ikde ye,” with the actor trying his best to repeat them. She then took things a step further by asking him to recreate the title track and famous lines from the cult Marathi comedy Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi.

Sesh even attempted the popular dialogue “Aacharya chi baayko vedi kaay,” originally delivered by veteran actor Ashok Saraf in the film. The playful exchange appears to have been captured on the sets of Dacoit, where the two actors are currently shooting together.

Mrunal, who hails from Dhule in Maharashtra, has often expressed her fondness for Marathi culture. The 1988 film Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi remains one of Marathi cinema’s most loved comedies, featuring legends like Laxmikant Berde, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Siddharth Ray, along with Supriya Pilgaonkar and Nivedita Saraf. Even decades later, the film continues to enjoy cult status for its humour and memorable performances.

On the work front, Dacoit marks the directorial debut of Shaneil Deo. The project is produced by Supriya Yarlagadda, co-produced by Suniel Narang, and presented by Annapurna Studios. Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, the film’s story and screenplay have been jointly written by Adivi Sesh and Shaneil Deo.

The pan-India release of Dacoit is scheduled for April 10, 2026, and the off-screen camaraderie between the two stars suggests audiences can expect plenty of chemistry on screen as well.
