Mumbai:The makers of Accused have unveiled the trailer of the upcoming psychological drama, offering a tense and emotionally layered glimpse into the life of a respected surgeon whose world begins to fracture under serious allegations.
In the film, Konkona Sen Sharma plays Dr. Geetika Sen, a celebrated gynaecologist whose professional and personal life spirals after accusations of sexual misconduct surface at her workplace. As public scrutiny intensifies, the strain seeps into her marriage with Dr. Meera, portrayed by Pratibha Ranta.
Reflecting on her role, Konkona said, “Geetika is a woman used to control — of her work, her credibility, her space. What moved me was her internal collapse under scrutiny.” The narrative deliberately avoids sensationalism, instead dwelling in ambiguity and emotional restraint as it examines the psychological toll of accusation and doubt.
Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap and produced by Dharma Productions, the film explores themes of power, vulnerability, bias, and emotional survival. Speaking about the project, Kashyap said she wanted to examine what happens when clarity is denied, adding that the trailer reflects the film’s underlying emotional stillness and unease.
Pratibha Ranta described her character, Dr. Meera, as someone navigating emotional conflict. “Playing Meera meant living in that messy space where you want to trust, but your heart isn’t sure,” she said.
Accused is set to premiere on Netflix on February 27. The film stands out for presenting the story from the accused’s perspective — a narrative lens rarely explored in mainstream Indian cinema.
Konkona began her career as a child artist in *Indira* (1983) and gained widespread recognition with Mr. and Mrs. Iyer. She earlier played a leading role in the Bengali thriller Ek Je Aachhe Kanya.
Pratibha Ranta made her acting debut with the television show Qurbaan Hua and later transitioned to films with a leading role in Laapataa Ladies.
