Mumbai — Actor and producer Shweta Tripathi, who is expanding her creative horizon with the horror film *Nava*, says the project feels like stepping into a genre she has always deeply admired.
*Nava* marks her second venture as a producer after the queer drama *Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan*, starring Tilottama Shome.
Speaking to IANS about her new film, Shweta shared, “Stepping into the world of horror with *Nava* feels like opening a door to a genre I’ve always admired from afar, and now I’m finally stepping inside. What excited me most was how the script uses fear—not just to scare, but as something rooted in memory, landscape, and legacy.”
She highlighted the central role of the Sundarbans in the story. “The Sundarbans in this script are almost a living character—holding beauty and unease in the same breath. That duality instantly convinced me to join the film.”
As a producer, Shweta said she gravitates toward stories that “surprise me, push boundaries, and honour the cultural worlds they come from.”
“Nava does all of that with so much heart and conviction. Collaborating with Kowatanda Films India felt natural because we share a curiosity for bold, textured storytelling. This film is a leap—and that’s exactly why I wanted to make it,” she said.
Set in the haunting, mystical wetlands of the Sundarbans, *Nava* follows Tara, who returns to her ancestral home only to be drawn into a chilling mystery involving river gods, buried family secrets, and the uneasy blend of myth and memory across generations.
Shweta will also be seen next in the film adaptation of *Mirzapur*, the popular crime-thriller series that revolves around Akhandanand “Kaleen” Tripathi, a crime lord and industrialist who dominates the Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh.
The first season starred Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu Sharma, Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.
The second season retained most of the cast except Vikrant and Shriya, and added new actors including Vijay Varma, Isha Talwar, Lilliput, Anjum Sharma, Priyanshu Painyuli, Anangsha Biswas, and Neha Sargam.
The film adaptation is reportedly slated for release in 2026.
