Mumbai — As “Mirzapur 2” marks its fifth anniversary, actress Rasika Dugal, who plays the mysterious Beena in the hit crime-thriller series, shared her reflections on revisiting the character and the show’s journey.
“There’s always a nervous excitement every time I step back into Mirzapur,” Rasika told IANS.
She added,
“The thought is always — ‘I hope I can find my Beena again!’ So much has been said about the show and the characters that the real challenge is to stay true to what I feel while being Beena, instead of giving in to what people expect or interpret about her. People evolve, and so do characters. It’s important — and also a lot of fun — to stay open to that evolution.”
Rasika is now preparing to return to the world of Mirzapur in “Mirzapur: The Film”, currently in production. The cinematic adaptation promises to expand the series’ narrative and explore its characters in a new format.
The original series follows Akhandanand “Kaleen” Tripathi, a crime lord and businessman who rules Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh’s Purvanchal region. The first season featured Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.
Season two retained most of the main cast, with new additions including Vijay Varma, Isha Talwar, Lilliput, Anjum Sharma, Priyanshu Painyuli, Anangsha Biswas, and Neha Sargam. The series was primarily filmed across Uttar Pradesh in locations such as Mirzapur, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Lucknow, Raebareli, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi.
The upcoming film adaptation, slated for a 2026 release, will see Ali Fazal and Pankaj Tripathi reprise their roles as Guddu Pandit and Kaleen Bhaiya, joined by actors Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan.
