Infosys opens North Carolina hub, hires 4,700 in the US

Indian IT major Infosys has inaugurated its fourth Technology and Innovation Hub in Raleigh, North Carolina, as part of its plan to expand its US workforce and strengthen its presence in emerging digital technologies.

The company said it has hired more than 4,700 Americans since announcing its US expansion programme in spring 2017, including nearly 500 employees in North Carolina.

The Raleigh hub will enable Infosys to work more closely with businesses in the region on technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, user experience, big data and cloud computing.

The facility will also serve as a training and reskilling centre, helping Infosys employees and workers of its client companies develop expertise in technologies that are increasingly important to digital transformation.

"The inauguration of our Raleigh Technology and Innovation Hub empowers our North Carolina employees by providing them with pioneering technology training that will help American industries revitalise their core businesses," Infosys CEO Salil Parekh said.

He said the facility would allow the company and its clients to work together on new technology solutions while helping create a new generation of skilled technology professionals in the US.

Infosys announced in May 2017 that it planned to hire 10,000 American workers and establish four technology and innovation hubs across the country. The initiative was aimed at expanding its local workforce and increasing its ability to provide advanced technology services to US clients.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper welcomed the company's progress, noting that Infosys had previously committed to creating 2,000 high-skill, high-wage jobs in the state.

"Just over a year ago, Infosys committed to creating 2,000 high-skill, high-wage jobs in the Tar Heel State. The company is making strong progress towards that hiring target," Cooper said.

Infosys has been building a network of technology hubs across the US. Its first hub was inaugurated in Indianapolis, Indiana, in March, where the company said it had hired around 2,500 American workers over the preceding year.

The company also announced a hub in Providence, Rhode Island, with plans to hire around 2,000 technology professionals there by 2021-22.

In March, Infosys announced plans for another technology and innovation hub in Connecticut, where it expected to hire around 1,000 American workers by 2022. That facility is planned to focus on insurance, healthcare and manufacturing, while also serving as a global centre for the company's InsurTech and HealthTech initiatives.

Ravi Kumar, President of Infosys, said the Raleigh inauguration represented another important step in the company's expansion in North Carolina and highlighted its partnerships with the state's economic development authorities.

The expansion reflects Infosys' broader strategy of increasing local hiring in the US while developing technology and training centres closer to its clients. The company is using these hubs not only as delivery centres but also as platforms for talent development and collaboration on emerging technologies.
