India’s Passenger Vehicle Sales Surge to Nearly 4.7 Lakh Units in July on Strong Consumer Demand

New Delhi: India's passenger vehicle industry recorded a strong performance in July, with sales touching nearly 4.7 lakh units, driven by tax relief measures, GST 2.0-related benefits, rising SUV demand and growing electric vehicle adoption.

The industry had sold around 3.5 lakh passenger vehicles in July last year, reflecting an impressive year-on-year growth of nearly 33 per cent.

Leading the market was Maruti Suzuki India, which achieved its highest-ever monthly domestic sales by crossing the 2 lakh-unit mark for the first time. The company reported total sales of 2,41,421 units in July, compared to 1,80,526 units during the same month last year.

Maruti Suzuki India Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Partho Banerjee said the overall passenger vehicle industry was expected to record sales between 4.65 lakh and 4.7 lakh units in July, highlighting the sharp improvement over last year's performance.

The strong industry growth was supported by healthy demand for SUVs, a significant rise in electric vehicle sales and robust export performance across major automakers.

Hyundai Motor India also registered its best-ever monthly sales since entering the Indian market, selling 75,360 units in July, a growth of 25.4 per cent over the previous year. Domestic sales rose 23.3 per cent to 54,210 units, while exports climbed 31.4 per cent to 21,150 units, marking the company's highest export volume in more than 100 months.

Kia India reported its strongest July wholesale performance, with dispatches increasing 27.4 per cent year-on-year to 28,200 units. During the January-July period, the company dispatched 1,91,949 units, registering a 16.8 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles recorded total domestic and international sales of 63,760 units in July, up 59 per cent from 40,175 units a year ago. Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 62,611 units, reflecting a 58 per cent rise.

Meanwhile, Nissan Motor India posted record monthly wholesale volumes of 9,339 units. Domestic wholesales surged 218 per cent year-on-year to 4,518 units, while exports reached 4,821 units, underscoring the company's strong momentum in both domestic and overseas markets.
