Adani Ports Wins Decade-Long Contract for Argentina’s First LNG Export Project

Ahmedabad: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has secured a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project, marking a significant expansion of the company’s global operations and its entry into the South American market.

India’s largest integrated transport utility said the contract was awarded to its step-down subsidiary, The Adani Harbour International FZCO, through a consortium formed with Argentina-based Meridian Group. The consortium emerged successful following an international competitive bidding process conducted by Southern Energy SA (SESA).

The Adani-Meridian partnership will provide marine services for the Southern Energy Floating LNG (FLNG) project, which involves an estimated investment commitment of $70 million.

In its initial phase, the project is expected to produce 2.45 million tonnes (MT) of LNG annually, equivalent to around 28 LNG cargo shipments each year. It will become Argentina’s first operational LNG export facility.

Commenting on the development, Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, said the project highlights the company's growing ability to support large-scale energy infrastructure projects across international markets.

He noted that APSEZ currently operates marine services in 12 countries and manages a growing fleet that supports ports, LNG terminals, national oil companies, refineries and offshore facilities worldwide. According to Gupta, the company's expertise, combined with strong local partnerships, will help create reliable maritime ecosystems and strengthen global energy trade routes.

Under the agreement, the consortium will provide a comprehensive range of marine services, including tugboat operations for LNG carriers, offshore logistics support, supply operations and crew transfer services.

Argentina is increasingly positioning itself as a major LNG supplier, with agreements already in place to facilitate exports of up to 10 million tonnes annually to India beginning in 2027. The Southern Energy FLNG project is expected to play a crucial role in linking Argentina’s growing LNG production with international markets, including India.

The project’s marine operations will be supported by four high-specification tugboats, one anchor handling tug supply vessel and one crew boat, ensuring safe and efficient handling of LNG export activities.

The contract further strengthens economic and energy cooperation between India and Argentina while expanding APSEZ’s presence in the global maritime and energy infrastructure sector.
