India’s Engineering Goods Exports Jump 13.81% in July; US, Germany Among Top Markets

New Delhi: India’s engineering goods exports rose 13.81% year-on-year in July 2025, supported by strong demand from the US, UK, Germany, Japan, Brazil, and China, according to a report released on Saturday.

Data from the Engineering Export Promotion Council of India (EEPC) showed that exports crossed the $10 billion mark for the first time in this fiscal, reaching $10.43 billion in July, compared with $9.16 billion in the same month last year.

This growth comes despite global trade headwinds stemming from US tariff hikes, geopolitical tensions, and policy uncertainties.

  • Exports to the US grew 19% YoY to $1.81 billion.

  • Shipments to Germany rose 37.8% to $457.6 million.

  • Exports to the UK surged 46.5% to $402.5 million.

  • Exports to Japan climbed 55.2% to $256.6 million.

  • Shipments to Brazil grew 26.4%.

  • Exports to China rose 35.8% YoY, touching $263.9 million.

In contrast, exports to Turkey fell 31%, likely due to strained bilateral ties. Declines were also reported in exports to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.

Overall, 29 of 34 engineering product categories posted positive growth in July, while segments like aircraft, ships, and zinc products saw declines.

For April–July FY26, engineering exports grew 6.1% YoY, reaching $39.34 billion, compared to $37.08 billion in the same period last year.

Commenting on the outlook, EEPC India Chairman Pankaj Chadha said:

“We need to diversify both markets and products to sustain growth and expand our global share. Government support in terms of foreign policy and credit access will be critical at this stage.”

Regionally, North America remained India’s largest market (22% share), followed by the EU (18%) and West Asia–North Africa (14%).

The WTO has forecast a 0.2% dip in global merchandise trade in 2025, which could worsen to 1.5% if trade tensions intensify.
