Deoghar: Young sportspersons from Deoghar have made the district proud with their impressive performances at national and international sporting competitions. Their achievements include three medals at the National Lawn Bowls Championship in Odisha and a bronze medal at an international yoga championship in Thailand.

Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuvania met the successful athletes and sports officials on Wednesday to congratulate them on their accomplishments. He appreciated their dedication and assured them of support from the district administration to help them progress further in their sporting careers.

At the 6th Under-25 National Lawn Bowls Championship, organised in Balangir, Odisha, from October 23 to 26, athletes representing Jharkhand secured three medals. Suraj Kumar Kesari won the gold medal, while Soni Kumari Gupta claimed silver in the Under-25 singles category. Karan Kumar added another achievement to the state's tally by winning bronze in the Under-25 mixed pairs event.

Deoghar also received international recognition through Rakhit Chandra Jha, who represented India at an international yoga championship in Thailand. Organised by the World Federation for Yoga Sports (WFFYS) Asia-Pacific, the competition saw Jha secure bronze medals in the Sub-Junior Traditional Yoga and Artistic Yoga events.

Another notable achievement came from Alok Kumar, who was selected as a technical official for the Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship 2026. The tournament took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from October 21 to 31, with teams from 14 countries participating.

During the interaction, Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuvania said Deoghar has considerable sporting potential and that talented athletes should receive proper opportunities to develop their skills. He instructed the District Sports Officer to ensure that players are provided with appropriate training facilities, resources and other necessary assistance.

The district administration's support, he said, would aim to encourage young athletes to perform better and bring further recognition to Deoghar, Jharkhand and the country at major sporting events.
