The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to intensify revenue collection measures, with Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav directing officials to take action against major defaulters and accelerate the recovery of outstanding dues.

At a revenue review meeting chaired by Gaurav on Thursday, officials assessed the collection of holding tax, water user charges and solid waste user charges. The commissioner issued directions to officials and staff to meet the revenue targets set by the civic body.

The meeting emphasised encouraging residents to pay holding tax online. Officials were instructed to publicise the payment facilities available through the corporation’s official website and chatbot to make the process more accessible to taxpayers.

The commissioner also directed officials to assess holding tax on government buildings and premises that have not yet been brought under the tax net. He instructed the concerned teams to measure such properties, generate tax demands promptly and issue notices in accordance with the rules to ensure recovery.

Revenue Collection Camps Three Days a Week

To facilitate taxpayers, the commissioner directed zonal offices to organise revenue collection camps three days every week. Officials were asked to identify suitable locations and inform residents in advance so that more people could pay their holding tax conveniently.

Action Against Major Defaulters

The civic body will identify major defaulters of holding tax and water user charges and issue notices to recover outstanding amounts as per the rules. The commissioner also directed officials to ensure the collection of solid waste user charges from hotels, banquet halls and other commercial establishments.

Establishments failing to pay the prescribed charges will face action in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Gaurav instructed officials and employees to maintain regular monitoring, accountability and greater efficiency in revenue collection. He said improved revenue would help the corporation secure resources needed to maintain civic services and carry out development works.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Kumar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Nikesh Kumar, municipal managers, tax collectors and other revenue branch employees attended the meeting.
