
Experts Share Insights on Emerging Areas of Artificial Intelligence, Automation, and Energy Management
Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi successfully organized a five-day Short-Term Course on “Next-Generation Smart Power Grids: Artificial Intelligence-Based Monitoring, Automatic Control, Energy Management and Protection” from September 21 to 25, 2026.
The programme aimed to provide participants with insights into emerging technologies related to smart power grids and their practical applications. The course covered important areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, smart sensors, data analytics, automation, renewable energy integration, energy management, and advanced protection systems, through expert lectures and technical sessions.
A total of 15 experts from the industry, Indian Institutes of Technology, and National Institutes of Technology (IITs & NITs) delivered lectures in hybrid mode and shared their technical knowledge and experience with the participants. The programme witnessed participation from 52 faculty members, research scholars, students, and industry professionals from various institutions across India.
As part of the course, an industrial visit to Patratu JSEB Power Station was also organized on September 24, 2026. The visit provided participants with an opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to the technical and practical aspects of the power sector.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. Rajeev Srivastava, Director, IIIT Ranchi. It was coordinated by Dr. Priyabrat Garanayak, along with Dr. Ravi Shanker and Dr. Abhinav Kumar.
On the occasion, Prof. Rajeev Srivastava emphasized the importance of *multidisciplinary research, innovation, and industry-academia collaboration*. He highlighted that promoting research and innovation in emerging technologies can help extend their practical applications to society and industry.
The programme received a positive response from the participants, who appreciated the expert lectures, interactive sessions, industry-oriented discussions, and industrial visits. The Short-Term Course provided an important platform for *knowledge exchange and collaboration among academia, research, and industry* in the field of next-generation smart power grids.
