Jamshedpur Canara Bank robbery: Four suspects detained in Chatra

The investigation into the daylight robbery at a Canara Bank branch in Jamshedpur has expanded to Chatra, where police have reportedly detained four suspects in connection with the case.

According to police sources cited in local reports, two of the four suspects were allegedly in regular contact with one of the main accused in the Jamshedpur robbery. The exact role of the suspects and their links with other members of the alleged robbery network are yet to be established.

The four suspects were reportedly questioned by Chatra Police before being handed over to Jamshedpur Police. Investigators are now questioning them to establish their possible involvement in the robbery, their links with the absconding accused and other aspects of the case.

However, reports have noted that the detention had not been officially confirmed by senior Chatra police officials at the time of reporting. The investigation is expected to establish whether the suspects were directly involved in the robbery or were connected to the accused in another capacity.

The development comes days after five armed men allegedly carried out a major robbery at the Canara Bank branch near Golmuri Chowk in Jamshedpur on September 24.

The assailants reportedly entered the bank during heavy rain wearing raincoats and held bank employees at gunpoint before accessing the iron chest and gold safe. They escaped within around 24 minutes with approximately 23 kg of gold kept in around 600 packets and Rs 43 lakh in cash, according to reports. The value of the stolen gold has been estimated at around Rs 36 crore.

The robbers fled the spot on two motorcycles after the incident. Jamshedpur Police subsequently formed a special investigation team comprising around 20 officers to track down the accused and recover the stolen valuables.

Police have also intensified searches for the five alleged robbers and examined their possible movements and contacts. The latest leads from Chatra could help investigators establish whether the robbery involved a wider network operating across districts.

The investigation remains underway, and the precise role of the four detained suspects will become clear only after further questioning and verification by the police.
