Supreme Court to Hear JPSC Irregularities Plea on September 11, CBI Probe in Focus

The Supreme Court is set to hear on September 11 a public interest litigation alleging irregularities and malpractice in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Combined Civil Services Examination. The case has been listed for hearing on the date in the Supreme Court's official cause list.

The matter is being heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohan. During the previous hearing, the Supreme Court had issued notices to the Jharkhand government and the Jharkhand Public Service Commission, seeking their responses to the allegations.

The petition seeks an independent investigation into the alleged irregularities in the JPSC examination process. The petitioner has specifically requested that the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to ensure an impartial probe.

As an alternative, the petition has sought an investigation conducted under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge. The plea argues that an independent mechanism is necessary to examine the allegations and determine whether there were any lapses or wrongdoing in the examination process.

The PIL has been filed by social activist Harisharan Devgan through advocate Satyam Singh Rajput.

The allegations have attracted attention because the JPSC Combined Civil Services Examination is one of the state's key recruitment processes for government services.
