Hemant Soren Expresses Concern Over Jharkhand Workers Trapped in Chamoli Tunnel Accident

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed concern over the safety of workers from the state reportedly trapped following an accident inside an under-construction tunnel in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district.

After receiving information that several Jharkhand workers were among those affected, Soren spoke to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone to seek an update on their condition and the ongoing rescue efforts.

Soren also expressed his concern through a social media post, saying reports of accidents in under-construction tunnels and workers becoming trapped were deeply worrying. He stressed the need to maintain a balance between development and environmental protection, cautioning that the indiscriminate exploitation of nature could have serious consequences.

Soren speaks to Dhami about workers' safety

During his conversation with Dhami, Soren sought details about the Jharkhand workers affected by the Chamoli tunnel accident. The two chief ministers also discussed the safety of the workers and the rescue operation being carried out at the site.

The Uttarakhand administration has launched a rescue operation to evacuate the workers trapped inside the tunnel. Teams from various agencies, along with local administration officials, are working at the site as efforts continue to reach and safely bring out those trapped.

Workers from Khunti, Gumla among those affected

Information has emerged that workers from Khunti, Gumla and some other districts of Jharkhand may have been affected in the incident. Families of the workers have been seeking information about their relatives and their safety.

The Jharkhand government is maintaining contact with the Uttarakhand administration to obtain verified information about the workers. Officials are also coordinating with the families and working to ensure that necessary assistance and updates are provided.

Focus on development and environmental balance

Soren's reaction to the Chamoli incident also highlighted concerns surrounding the environmental impact of large infrastructure projects in ecologically sensitive areas.

While development projects are important, the Chief Minister stressed the need to ensure that they are carried out with due consideration for nature and environmental balance. He cautioned that excessive and indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources can lead to serious consequences.
