President Murmu, PM Modi Greet People on Jharkhand’s 25th Foundation Day

New Delhi — As Jharkhand marked 25 years of its formation on Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the people of the state, celebrating its rich cultural heritage, natural resources, and the legacy of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda.

Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar on November 15, 2000, and the day also coincides with the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, who is revered across the region.

In a post on X, President Murmu conveyed her greetings: “Heartiest congratulations to everyone on the Silver Jubilee of the creation of Jharkhand! The talented and hardworking people of this land of Bhagwan Birsa Munda have brought pride to the state as well as to the entire nation.”

She noted that Jharkhand, blessed with vast natural wealth, has continuously made significant contributions to the country’s development. Highlighting its cultural vibrancy, she said that the state’s tribal folk arts are recognised not only within India but also abroad. She also lauded the people of Jharkhand for their unwavering dedication to the nation.

The President expressed her hopes for the state’s steady progress, wishing for a bright and prosperous future for all its residents.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended warm wishes on the state’s 25th Foundation Day. In his message on X, he wrote, “Greetings to all residents of the glorious state of Jharkhand, enriched with tribal culture, on its Foundation Day.” He added that Jharkhand’s history, deeply linked to Birsa Munda, is filled with stories of courage, sacrifice, and self-respect.

Earlier, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary, which is celebrated nationwide as Tribal Pride Day. Born on November 15, 1875, in Ulihatu—now part of Jharkhand—Birsa Munda became a powerful symbol of resistance against British rule and a champion of tribal rights.

Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar also extended his greetings, stating on X that the state’s 25-year journey reflects inspiring progress across multiple sectors. He wished the people prosperity and the state continued advancement.
