Birsa Munda’s Legacy of Courage Continues to Inspire: PM Modi on His 150th Birth Anniversary

New Delhi — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid heartfelt tribute to legendary tribal leader Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary, which is marked nationwide as Tribal Pride Day.

Posting on X, PM Modi wrote, “On this sacred occasion of Tribal Pride Day, the nation salutes the unmatched contribution of Bhagwan Birsa Munda Ji, who dedicated his life to safeguarding the honour of our motherland.”

He added, “His struggle and sacrifice against the injustice of foreign rule will continue to guide and inspire generations to come. I offer my deep respects to Bhagwan Birsa Munda Ji on his 150th birth anniversary.”

Born on November 15, 1875, in Ulihatu village of present-day Jharkhand, Birsa Munda emerged as a key figure in the resistance against British rule during the late 19th century. Celebrated as ‘Dharti Aaba’ or the ‘Father of the Earth,’ he became a symbol of tribal empowerment and anti-colonial defiance.

To mark the occasion, PM Modi will visit Dediapada in Gujarat to inaugurate and lay the foundation for development projects exceeding Rs 9,700 crore, funded jointly by the Centre and the state. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will also attend.

Before addressing the public, the Prime Minister will visit Dev Mogra Dham, a revered spiritual site for tribal communities of the Satpuda region. He will offer prayers and then proceed to the venue, where tribal artists from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra will welcome him with traditional performances.

The day’s announcements include Rs 7,667 crore worth of initiatives by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in addition to Rs 2,112 crore in state-level projects. At Ekta Nagar, a special theatrical show highlighting Birsa Munda’s life and legacy will be presented, with the entire event streamed live across 23 tribal talukas of Gujarat.
