Washington — US President Donald Trump is set to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Sergio Gor, his close aide and the newly appointed US Ambassador to India, at the White House on Monday.
The White House confirmed Trump’s participation in an official email on Sunday, stating that the President will take part in the “Swearing-in Ceremony for the Ambassador to the Republic of India.”
Gor, who was confirmed by the Senate in October, is expected to assume office in New Delhi soon after the ceremony. At 38 years old, he will become the youngest US Ambassador to India.
A long-time confidant of Trump, Gor previously served as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, where he was responsible for vetting and staffing more than 4,000 key positions in the administration.
Announcing the nomination on Truth Social in August, Trump wrote:
“For the most populous region in the world, it’s important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my agenda and help us ‘Make America Great Again.’ Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador.”
In addition to his ambassadorial role, Gor will also serve as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
During his Senate confirmation hearing in September, Gor described India as a “strategic partner whose trajectory will shape the region and beyond.”
“India’s geographic position, economic growth, and military capabilities make it a cornerstone of regional stability and a critical partner in advancing our shared prosperity and security interests,” Gor said.
“I will work to advance US interests by deepening defence cooperation, promoting fair and beneficial trade, enhancing energy security, and strengthening technology partnerships.”
He further emphasized his commitment to expanding defence and security collaboration with India — including joint military exercises, co-development and co-production of defence systems, and major defence sales.
In September, Gor met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Following the meeting, the US State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs noted that both sides looked forward to “further promoting the success of the US–India relationship.”
Soon after his Senate confirmation, Gor made a four-day visit to India, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior officials.
After the meeting, Gor posted on X (formerly Twitter):
“An honour to be with PM Narendra Modi this evening. Our relationship with India will only strengthen in the months ahead!”
Prime Minister Modi responded warmly:
“Glad to receive Mr. Sergio Gor. I’m confident that his tenure will further strengthen the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.”
